behind the posts

Dr. Anjana Goswami, the founder-director of Ashadeep – A Mental Health Society has extensively covered various aspects of Mental Health in her publications. She has authored two Assamese Books on the first-hand experience of working with homeless individuals with mental illness and their transformational stories. Her articles are regularly published in  Assamese newspapers. Dr. Goswami’s association with Special Olympics Bharat also gives her an insight into the importance of sports for individuals with disabilities, which is often reflected in her writings.

Dr. Goswami did her post-graduation from North Eastern Hill University (NEHU) and Ph.D. from Guwahati University. At the beginning of her career, Dr. Goswami was a teacher by profession. However, a very close encounter with a relative suffering from a mental disorder, and the ordeal that the family had to face motivated Dr. Goswami to do some meaningful work for this community including the affected families. Presently, she resides in Guwahati, Assam with her husband who is also fully devoted to the same field.

“Conventional paths of education and careers during my times led me to a teaching role in a college. Everyone was happy, but eventually, I could not control my passion for action at the ground level. Taking a risk, I plunged into the world of mental health through Ashadeep. Whether working with children and adults with developmental disorders or rescuing a lady with mental health problems from the street. I was happy and satisfied.” - Dr. Anjana Goswami
